Clear Senescent Cells in Order to Live Longer & Healthier

February 13, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Senescent cells are the hottest topic in aging and biotech. They have been linked to a diverse range of chronic diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, most cancers, dementia, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and frailty. Treatments to clear senescent cells are widely expected to improve health more than most drugs in history. Last Salon, we met Judy Campisi, scientific co-founder of senescence startup Unity Biotech. Now, Scientist and writer Dr. Heike Fuhrmann-Stroissnigg will show us a new view of senescent cells based on her work at Scripps and elsewhere. Who among us will found the next company in this area? Come join us at Hogan Lovells in Menlo Park for dinner, drinks, and data!

Dr. Heike-Fuhrmann-Stroissnigg

Dr. Heike Fuhrmann-Stroissnigg received her PhD in Cell Biology from the
University of Vienna, Austria. She then worked in the BioSurgery Department
at Baxter BioScience in Vienna, Austria, where she was heading a cell biology
lab aiming to improve clinically relevant biocompatible tissue glues. After five
years in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr. Fuhrmann-Stroissnigg joined the
laboratory of Dr. Paul Robbins in the Department of Metabolism and Aging at
the Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter, Florida. There, she developed a novel
senescent cell-based high throughput screening assay and identified several classes of senotherapeutic
drugs that are able to improve aging-related diseases. She recently moved to the San Francisco Bay area
where she is currently a freelance scientific writer, a science instructor as well as a consultant for a bay
area based biotech start-up company.

The event is hosted at Hogan Lovells in Menlo Park who is sponsoring the event. Hogan Lovells provides corporate work for startups and emerging and mature life sciences and technology companies, defends against government investigations, protects intellectual property, and litigates across a broad range of subjects, including consumer class actions, commercial litigation, and securities and governance claims.
